How To Most Effectively Spend This Winter Break

Improve in Just One Week

December wreaths unto us cozy sweater weather and season's greetings keep us in jolly anticipation of the holidays. While this month is one of the most exciting times of the year, it also precedes very important deadlines for students. In January, high school students must submit their Regular College Applications. Eligible middle school students take the Hunter High School Entrance Exam on January 5th. And all students must continue to keep their grades up throughout the spring semester after their return from break as well. Entrance exams, applications, and GPA's: these constitute major parts of a student’s academic health, and maintaining them should be every student's priority. To help students successfully juggle these crucial responsibilities, THiNK PREP is offering an Intensive Winter Program.

Tests Everyone Should Know About

Ever heard of Hunter College High School? It's only one of the most prestigious high schools in New York City. To get in, students must take the HCHS Entrance Exam, a highly selective test that is administered once a year, with no make-up dates save a snow date, to 6th graders for admission the following year. For those who earned an eligible score on the English and Math State Tests for a chance to take this exam: congratulations! However, this opportunity is only one half of the journey, as the 2 part multiple-choice and one part essay test remains. The winter program will focus on helping students grow familiarity with the exam through mock testing and review to work on individual weaknesses and nurture their strengths.

Everybody has heard of the SAT, one of the most widely known standardized tests for college admissions. A good SAT score boldly bolsters a student's chance of admission into his dream university. Whether you are an underclassman trying to take the test for the first time or an upperclassman veteran trying to see how much higher your score can rise, the winter program is designed to assist any high school student to become a stronger SAT test taker and achieve his goals.

What Are You Waiting For?

The program is a whopping seven-day course (starting on Dec. 23 and resumed on Dec. 26 to Dec. 30) designed to help students in every area. From morning to the afternoon, students take mock tests that simulate real exam conditions. After a lunch break, there will be private tutoring for SAT subject tests and school material until the evening. Afternoon tutoring also includes essay writing and editing, from college essays to English class papers. Check out some hot tips on writing for a glimpse of what you could be learning.
